Trade 07 of 10

Painters and decorators in Leeds

A whole house before you move in, one room once the plaster has dried, the outside woodwork before it rots, or a rental between tenants. Decorating is the trade that makes every other job look finished.

It can be booked on its own, or added to the end of any other job so the room is handed back ready to use rather than ready to paint.

Scope of work

  • Walls, ceilings and woodwork inside
  • Wallpaper hanging, including lining paper
  • Windows, doors, fascias and render outside
  • Filling, sanding and timber repairs
  • Mist coats on new plaster
  • End-of-tenancy redecoration
  • Offices, shops and communal areas

Good times to book

  • Before you sell, or straight after you buy
  • Once building, plastering or electrical work is finished
  • When exterior paint is flaking and bare timber is showing
  • After a leak has left a stain on the ceiling

How the job is handled

Most of the time on a decorating job goes into preparation: filling, sanding, caulking and masking. That is what decides how the finish looks a year later.

Colours and sheen are agreed in writing before work starts, and paint can be included in the price or supplied by you.

In Leeds

Leeds weather is hard on exterior woodwork. South and west-facing windows take the worst of it, and that is usually where rot shows first, so it gets checked before any paint goes on.

FAQs

Painting & Decorating questions

Do I need to buy the paint?

No. Paint can be included in the price, or you can supply your own. Either way, the colour and finish are agreed before work starts.

Can you decorate straight onto new plaster?

Once it is fully dry, yes. New plaster needs a thinned mist coat first so the paint bonds and does not peel.

Do you paint outside?

Yes: windows, doors, fascias, soffits and render. Any rot is cut out and repaired first rather than painted over.

Can you turn a rental round between tenants?

Yes. End-of-tenancy decorating is a regular job and can be booked together with any small repairs at the same visit.
